Progress Report: My Resident Evil music
video project has been seriously underway since my semester
ended earlier this month, tho unfortunately it's still
in its early stages. Prior to December, not a whole
lot got done. Throughout the semester, I had slowly
written-up about 11 pages of notes (and still writing
more), recalling EVERY cutscene obtainable in RE1
and RE0, brainstorming all the scenes
and moments I'd like to capture. In fact, writing these
notes and ignoring my professor was the only thing I
could do to keep myself awake during General Chem. after
lunch. Beyond that, I only captured the intro scenes
from both games. Less than two weeks ago, right after
final exams, I was finally able to spend quality time
with RE1 for some serious capture sessions
[serious: 10pm till 6am, daily]. Playing (reloading)
& capturing, then post-processing the footage is
the routine. The process would be much less time-consuming
if RE1 didn't have so many friggin' branching
paths (varying cutscenes). Using multiple saves on 2-3
memory cards is a necessity, and never running out of
ink ribbons is a priority.
At this point, both Chris and Jill just got to the Lab
on Disc 2, across 4 save files. 2 files for rescuing
Rebecca from the Hunter, or not; 2 files for giving
Barry's gun back at Lisa's Altar, or not. I have a 5th
file in case Chris wants a costume change. I have roughly
9gigs of video (~5.3MB/sec, on average). I've seen just
about everything there is to see on Disc 1. Soon, I'll
be able to move on to RE0, which should
be far less repetitive since it's not divided into two
separate adventures. In the end, I'll be playing 3 games
instead of 2. Yikes.
I haven't touched Mario Power Tennis,
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, or Viewtiful
Joe 2 in a month. Daisy & Peach are my only
Star Characters, I'm only in the first Save Station
in Sanctuary Fortress, and Joe & Silvia have only
beaten 3 bosses. I've only (re)played Tales cuz I play
co-op when I visit my friends on weekends. I'm having
doubts that I'll finish this video by the time I get
my hands on Resident Evil 4. If not, Resi4
will have to wait, just like the others. I'll still
post the intro or something. Or something.
Later on, I'll upload [lots of] character screen caps
from my source videos. I'm sure some people will make
good use of them.

I haven't touched Echoes or VJ2

Say hi to Ada. She's somewhere around here. Even tho
she's been around for a couple weeks already, this is

Don't expect any more clips from the Metroid

stuff in this short demo stage to show off. For a slightly
better look at what's in the final game, download the

"J-pop" version of the anime opening is immediately

Prime 2: Echoes bonus disc should be coming

Crap
happens. Reinstalled Windows on my editing machine and
my fun machine. Reinstalled everything. Major delays.
Me tired. Need sleepy. Need doughnuts.
Guess
what, both the JPN and USA versions of the Tales
of Symphonia anime opening sequence should
be availale early next week [I'VE BEEN BUSY]. Recall
that the JPN opening featured the J-pop song "Starry
Heavens" by 'day after tomorrow,' while the US
version got some un-exciting out-of-place orchestra
music. From the looks of the JPN opening, the anime
clips were sequenced to match the J-pop, but the orchestra
stuff was written to match the already-sequenced anime
clips, which is why the anime stuff doesn't seem to
fit the orchestra stuff well in the US opening. The
orchestra wants to embrace the anime, but the anime
wants to embrace the J-pop. Mind you that I don't
have the JPN import of the game, so what I did was
capture the video from the US game and decompressed/edited
a full-length mp3 track of "Starry Heavens"
that I had. Using an old MPEG capture of the JPN opening
as a guide, I trimmed/timed/cut/pasted/improvised
the audio track to match the timing I saw from the
MPEG video. It wasn't easy.

Chill,
chill, I'll try to capture some Tales of Symphonia
videos "soon." The anime opening we'll have,
for sure, and maybe a battle or two. Come back next
year, or sooner. In the meantime, just buy the game,
and try to snatch that nice art book.
Truth be told, I haven't really started my Resident
Evil Remake + Zero video yet. I've done a little
script writing, but no video capturing. I'm waiting

DO
NOT BUY Mega Man Anniversary Collection
(any version, if you ask me). Your money isn't worth
the crap you'll have to put up with. It's an insult
to fans (especially long-time Nintendo fans), it's an
insult to Capcom, and it's an insult to Mega Dude
himself. Unbelievably, most/all these classic "ports"
manage to look, sound, and play WORSE than their original
versions (thanks to a shitty control scheme, the GCN
version is practically unplayable, or played painfully).
How Capcom let this garbage thru in the first place
is a mystery to me.

a string of words that don't really belong in this update
