Also replaced the video card and power supply of the Wii-capture desktop. Computer stuff seems to be working fine, if not better. Puts me in a better position to properly backup the finished content and resume newer stuff. This is good. Time for Xenoblade, tho.
Well, re-uploaded most of it. Had a bit of a setback this evening as the video card on my old Wii-recording desktop just died as a result of either a power outtage last December, or being off for several months during my usual neglect. Will try harder on the site after fixing the machine. Just a warning - I've been playing lots of Xenoblade X since February and intend to play more (beat it last month, exceeding 300 hours with more monster hunting to go).

First major change, nearly all new/returning videos will have *.AVI file extensions because my backups/original files are all AVI anyway; I previously used the *.DIVX container for the sake of DivX Web Player compliance and manually repacked each AVI into *.DIVX before uploading them on the old site. Honestly, I haven't tried to use the Web Player on current browsers, and with Stage6 gone, there's no point dwelling on it. The DivXMUX utility I traditionally used for repacking doesn't seem to work 100% on this Windows 8 laptop (upgrade from old Windows XP laptop) with the new videos I made, so I abandoned that practice. I'll just stick to plain AVIs for the forseeable future.
The Mario Kart 8 page features some videos with the large "Hi-Q" 720p DivX videos I've been experimenting with. Interestingly, the empirical bitrate(s) I calculated for the HD 720p content turned out to approximately match the MAXIMUM bitrate allowed by my old DivX Codec. So what you're seeing in those MK8 videos is the performance of DivX 6.8.5 pushed to its limit within a 720p/60fps format. I think it performs admirably for the "perfect" quality recordings I'm getting off the Wii U, without suffering the unavoidable texture destruction you get from most streaming sites despite using more advanced codecs (they still yield very poor results in fast-moving game scenes becuz of bitrate limits that users have little control over; this wasn't a problem on Stage6 becuz it did not recompress videos - it only provided a DivX Web Player interface to view the uploads). The obvious drawback is the "big" file size needed to ensure the image quality I want to retain for the gameplay footage. In a separate success, these 720p/60fps videos are surprisingly efficient in processing: they play flawlessly on the old dual-core 2.2GHz AMD Athlon64 X2 4200+ system I made them on (working hard since 2007), peaking at only 35% CPU usage, and no modern "GPU acceleration" was involved or needed, ever.
What do you think of the quality versus the size? I will continue adding 720p videos if I think the footage deserves it.

Finally got off my ass and ordered a new dedicated server for the site. What this means is I have much more storage and bandwidth for practically the same subscription price I've been paying for the last 7 years. HD video sizes and increased data traffic will be much less of a concern now (something that has quietly discouraged me for a while, aside from being useless and lazy). [If you see this line it means you're reading off the new server]
I will work on re-uploading the site content over the next couple of weeks, but the next update you see will actually start with some newish content I have been dwelling on recently. During that time, tho, nearly all the old content will be absent (many broken links) until I restore them, section by section. I'll be sure to mention when each old section has be
completed. Try not to visit too often; I'm likely to disappoint again and again.

I hear my friends say this often: too many games. No wonder I don't know where to start, what to finish, and when to attack my growing backlog. And if I'm not playing games, I'm definitely not recording new vidoes of them. It's way easier to just ignore that stuff and go online shopping for tech gear / paintball gear / tactical gear.

So yeah, this concludes the Beach Spikers update I originally started more than 2 years ago.
2013 wasn't good to me in very specific, personal ways and I didn't have the heart to spend time on many of the things I used to routinely love doing. Mostly retreated to racking up hundreds of hours with friends in Monster Hunter, watching/rewatching new and old anime, taking care of the house, and fitting in some exercise during evenings on some weeks and slacking off on just as many other weeks. It was an easy and relaxed routine that still bothered me in hindsight since so much time could've been spent being more productive and not just simply pleased & passive.
And just recently, it appears I may have gotten sick of being lazy. Working on site updates isn't much, but it's a start.
